Keynote: Freada Kapor Klein, Allison Scott & Irma Olguin Jr.
We’re thrilled to announce our first keynote panel for A BETTER TECH! Freada Kapor Klein, PhD (Co-Chair, Kapor Center), Allison Scott, PhD (CEO, Kapor Center), and Irma Olguin Jr. (CEO and Co-Founder, Bitwise Industries), will talk about what public interest technology means in the context of venture capital, entrepreneurship, and the leaky tech pipeline.
Freada Kapor Klein is an entrepreneur, activist and pioneer in the field of organizational culture and diversity. She invests in seed stage tech startups that create a positive social impact by closing gaps of access, opportunity or outcome for low income communities and communities of color. One of those startups is Bitwise Industries, which was co-founded by panelist Irma Olguin Jr. in 2012, with the goal of establishing tech economies to elevate underestimated cities. Also joining the panel will be the CEO of the Kapor Center, Allison Scott, whose research has examined equity in computer science education, participation and retention in the technology workforce among underrepresented populations, and intersectionality and barriers facing women of color in computing. We can’t wait to hear their conversation!
